North Georgia Community Mental Health Center in Gainesville, GA An analysis of the statewide monthly figures for injuries, fatalities, and the death rate per 100 million miles driven in the state of Georgia, undertaken for the 12 months immediately prior to and the 12 months after the implementation of the state's mandatory safety belt use law (MUL), found no appreciable differences in these statistics. Thus even though prior research suggests that MULs exert their greatest effect immediately after their implementation, the initial impact of the Georgia MUL appears minimal. Possible reasons for this lack of effect are discussed.
