Environmental Psychology and Health

This article reviews a program of research that takes a transactional person-in-environment approach to the study of disease prevention and health promotion. Four areas of research are described: smoking cessation, AIDS prevention, compliance with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and prognosis after hip fracture. The findings demonstrate that this approach can shape health care interventions that address the patents thoughts, feelings, and values, and can successfully influence patents' health-related behaviors.
